Hot Russian Pancakes sets up a thick, rich beer logo
This is the first time I’ve had a Beer-Type logo inspired by the name of a font foundry more than the font itself. But with a name like Hot Russian Pancakes, how could I resist? Juan is a free block font from this Moscow bunch that makes a bold statement. The name conjured up jalapenos in my mind, which provided the necessary heat I was after. Nice font—thanks, comrades!
I like an imperial stout, which is a malty stout of high ABV. It’s also known as a Russian Imperial Stout. I looked up the difference and there doesn’t seem to be one! Just the fact there was a strong dark beer brewed in England back in the 18th century to export to the court of Catherine II of Russia (ref: what is a Russian imperial stout on Wikipedia). And here I was thinking I was drinking some Russian inspired beers! But no matter, this Beer-Type logo is kind of a misnomer itself.

Some excellent imperial stouts I’ve enjoyed as of late are Judaculla by Nantahala Brewery (named after a big and bad Cherokee Indian legend), Narwhal from Sierra Nevada, and Lindley Park from Olde Hickory Brewery—an imperial stout brewed with honey and raspberries, then aged in bourbon barrels—deeeeeelish!
